Reservation for Other Backward Classes

Never deviating from the path laid by Justice party in promoting the cause of the backward and depressed classes, DMK leaders had a share in persuading the central government) to protect the States' reservation for educationally and socially backward classes in employment and education. When MGR Government tried to dilute it by adding economic criteria (1979), the DMK protested and made MGR give it up.

When Mr. V.P. Singh became the Prime Minister of India with ardent support of DMK. Dr. Kalaignar influenced the centeral government to accept the report of Mandal commission providing 27% of jobs reservation in central government and public sectors services to Other Backward Classes. Thus an opening was made enabling the other backward classes to have a share in central government jobs and in decision making.

DMK's mission will be complete only when it gets reservation in educational Institutions of the Central Government for the Other Backward Classes.
