Lok Sabha Election in 1999 The ensuing election to the Lok Sabha in 1999 will be the third since 1996. The direct, indirect and the hidden costs for each election borne by the Govt. the political parties and the candidates, by a modest estimate, is Rs. 6,000 crores. The Congress is solely responsible for the frequent elections and loss on state exchequer. It never allowed other parties to provide a stable govt. The spectre of political instability has come to haunt Indian democracy. The D.M.K. seized every opportunity to help non-Congress parties to form stable govt. At the centre. But the Congress factor, Ms. Jayalalitha the undependable ally, humiliated and harassed the BJP Govt. led by A.B. Vajpayee and suddenly withdrew her support leading to the fall of the Govt. Committed to democratic norms, the DMK under the leadership of Mr. Kalaignar, has joined the National Democratic Alliance and is fighting the Lok Sabha Elections, 1999 for a Stable govt. at the Centre under the Able leadership of Thiru. A.B. Vajpayee and peaceful govt. at the States.
